Formulation notes
- The 76° and 92° grades differ only in melt point, achieved by fractionation. The 76° is the standard soaping grade.
- Above 30% in cold process, coconut's cleansing number gets ahead of your superfat and the bar turns drying. 20–25% with a 5–6% superfat is the durable answer.
- Coconut and palm kernel oil are close enough in profile that adulteration is a real trade practice. Ask for the fatty acid profile on the COA, not just the name.
Applications
- Cold process soap
- Body scrub
- Hair mask
- Lotion and cream
- Melt and pour base
- Massage bar
Not classified as hazardous
Not classified as hazardous under 29 CFR 1910.1200 (HazCom 2012, as amended 2024). Determination to be confirmed against the incoming lot's manufacturer SDS before publication.
- Transport classification
- Not regulated for transport — DOT, IATA, IMDG.
- Allergen statement
- FDA classifies coconut as a tree nut for allergen labeling purposes. Declare it. Separately: coconut and palm kernel oil have near-identical fatty acid profiles and substitution does occur in the trade — we spec and test for it.
